Privacy Policy

Porchtale records the stories of people you love and turns them into a film for your family. Those recordings are personal, so we keep this simple: we collect what we need to make and deliver your film, we don't sell it, and you can ask us to delete it.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name and email address. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email and an account ID from them. We never see your Google or Apple password. If you make a password with us, we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it.
- Your sessions. The video and audio recorded during a Porchtale session, the names you give us (who the film is for and who it's from), any gift note, and the timing marks the app saves so we know where each question starts.
- Purchases. What you bought and when. Payments are handled by our payment provider; we don't store your card number.
- Basic technical data. Things like your device type and the time of a request, which our hosting provider logs to keep the service running and secure.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your sessions in your account.
- To transcribe and edit your recordings into your film, and to deliver it to you and the family members you choose.
- To keep your film and recordings in your Porchtale archive.
- To answer your questions and tell you about your order.
We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your recordings to train AI models.
Who helps us
We use a small number of trusted service providers, only to run Porchtale for you:
- Cloudflare, to host the app and website and store your recordings and account.
- Google and Apple, if you choose to sign in with them.
- Transcription, AI and video-editing services, to turn your recordings into a film. A Porchtale editor reviews every film before it's delivered.
- A payment provider, to take payment securely.
- A video hosting service, to play your finished film for your family.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Who can see your film
Your film is private. It is shared only with you, the person who gave it, and the family members you invite. Our team sees recordings only to edit, review and support your film.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while it's open, and your recordings and film for as long as your Porchtale archive is active. You can ask us to delete your account, your recordings, or both at any time by emailing [email protected]. We'll confirm when it's done.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your information. Email [email protected] and we'll help.
Children
Porchtale accounts are for adults. We don't knowingly create accounts for children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and let account holders know by email.
